It's hard for a Control Freak.....

What is it about Christmastime that we want to make memories? Good memories, preferably (had some bad ones this year, that will be in a later post.) Adults look back & reminisce about going to Grandma's & her house smelling of gingerbread & spending the day with her baking & laughing & singing Christmas songs together (Christmas Carols, not just the songs we have today....some of them make me want to bang my head against a wall! ha ha) Those memories don't include the clean-up.....or the impatient grumblings because Mom has only one rolling pin.....or the dough still not sitting out long enough to be soft enough to roll....or the sprinkles stuck to the bottom of any bare foot that walks across the floor...

This year, I decided to make some new memories with letting the kids do sugar cookies. Now, they have done them in the past, but in a much more controlled environment. My goal this year was to "let go," & "step out," & frankly, to not be such a control freak......if you are a fellow-control-freak, you will understand how difficult this is (all I could think was mess, mess, mess....). As I had hoped, the letting go of it all made some wonderful memories, clean-up aside......

Does that mouth look like one that hadn't been doing some tasting??!! I think NOT!

Melissa was our official taster...& sprinkler-eater....hey, whatever kept her quiet!!

There really is a cookie under there....somewhere....Hatcher is my "abstract" artist.

I wasn't kidding about the sprinkles on the floor!!!

I feel your "pain". I base decisions on the mess and if I can handle it. Sometimes you just have to let go...or do those activities outside (if at all possible!!!). Great pictures of sweet children. They won't be young forever and they won't get too excited about these things in the future. I am glad you enjoyed while you could.
